Equinor announced on October 15th 2024 that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Siemens Gamesa and Doosan Enerbility for collaboration on the Ulsan floating offshore wind project.

Under the MOU, Doosan Enerbility and Siemens Gamesa will participate in the development of Equinor’s 750 MW Bandibuli floating offshore wind farm in the Ulsan area.If the project is confirmed sanctioned through a Final Investment Decision, Siemens Gamesa's 15MW-class wind turbine will be used, with nacelles assembled at Doosan Enerbility's Changwon facility. This collaboration is expected to boost the domestic wind energy industry.

Ingunn Svegården, Equinor’s Senior Vice President for Asia-Pacific, Renewables said, "The partnership between Doosan Enerbility and Siemens Gamesa will play an important role in the success of the Ulsan floating offshore wind project and also serve as a vehicle to enhance the competitiveness of Korea’s offshore wind supply chain. This collaboration will bring Siemens’ turbine technology to Korea, creating jobs and business opportunities for Korea’s domestic turbine manufacturer Doosan, while leveraging Equinor’s technology and global offshore wind expertise to deliver a cutting-edge floating offshore wind farm."

Equinor received the electric business license for the Ulsan floating offshore wind project in the second half of 2021, and in July of this year, completed environmental impact assessment consultations with the Ministry of Environment. The company is now preparing to participate with Bandibuli in upcoming competitive bidding processes for offshore wind.
